16 years ago today, $ale of the Century and Super Password left the NBC airwaves.
First, $ale of the Century ended with a $6,000 win at the last Winner's Big Money Game. Plus one of the best endings, after the final commerical break, Jim Perry said that on the next show, the Jackpot will be worth nothing! (With the dollar signs pulled out) his wife June on stage, a final balloon drop and a long credit roll with a fade to black at the end of the credits along with "$ale of the Century:The End".
$ale of the Century reran on USA from September 21, 1992 to June 24, 1994, unsure of the time
Then on the final Super Password, Betty White broke the Magic Toaster once and for all (The final Ca$hword was shrewd). First she tore up the check and ripped open the Magic Toaster and Bert told her to throw it across the stage instead, but the first throw wasn't hard enough, so Bert had her throw it a second time and this is it shattered. Two Super Password rounds were played the day, the first one wasn't successful and to put a happy ending to the Super Password era, $10,000 was won. At the end, Bert Convy became emotional and acknowleged the staff, George Choderker, the producer described as "the best", Dayton Anderson, who Bert described who "put these things on me" and "The best" also, Tommy, the board operator, Rich Jeffries, the audience cordinator, the producers Bobby, Diane and Joe, and Gene Wood, Bert said "What can I say, Gene? He said he was "the best" and he loved him. Then Bert and Betty reminsed Allen Ludden, and said that this was the fifth last Password that she's done.
The final words uttered before the credits rolled were:
Betty White: The phoenix shall rise again, and just get out the way, we'll back in a minute.
Bert Convy: Gene Wood we want to support you too.
